May not makes all things new, but at least Apple fans rejoice after the April update of a new 15-inch model. Or maybe not, because the response to the modernization of the portable Pro model fails more cautious. First benchmarks set but then a positive exclamation mark: The MacBook Pro 15 “with Retina Display impresses with a blazing fast SSD that creates records. We take a first look at the technical changes.
When testing the new generation of Apple’s MacBook Air 13 “has given us the high speed SSD-like, which reaches 650 MB / s when writing and a whopping 1350 MB / s when reading. The MacBook Pro 13 “with Retina Display returns from comparable values. All the more impressive are the – albeit with a different test program – determined data, which the French side MacGeneration now published: 1.25 GB / s write and 2 GB / s when reading the SSD breaks in the MacBook Pro 15 “with Retina Display to speed record and achieved higher transfer rates than any other Apple hardware, including Mac Pro. By comparison, conventional (rapid) mechanical notebook hard drives provide 100 MB / s. The high speed makes it possible, as in the Mac models above the PCIe connector, the Apple already uses longer. Other manufacturers continue to obstruct the slower SATA interface.
Interestingly, Apple eliminated the new MacBook Pro 15 “, unlike the MacBook 12” on the transmission protocol NVME (Non-Volatile Memory Express) and continues to focus on AHCI (Advanced Host Controller Interface). Apple support NVME since OSX Yosemite10.10.3. Optimized for SSDs protocol improves the latency and thus allows for smaller blocks higher data transfer rates. So there is still room for improvement in it in the MacBook Pro 15-inch.
This is the case also for the processor, which dates back to the Haswell generation. The earlier presented MacBook Pro with 13-inch screen, however, can draw on the current Broadwell architecture and thus the 5th generation of the Intel processor. The reason is simple: the quad-core processors, which come in 15-inch model to use, has not yet published Intel in its fifth generation, and it is likely that Apple will skip a generation in his strongest notebook and at the next is revised on Skylake. The new processor generation could imagine Intel on August 15 at the Intel Developer Conference.
As in the last generation can also be the new MacBook Pro 15 “with and without a dedicated graphics card purchase. It changes the manufacturers: NVIDIA AMD Instead now comes the train. About the AMD Radeon R9 M370x but is only known what Apple provides to information, and these are not many. Up to 70 percent more power compared to the Apple promises something betagteren NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M in the predecessor model. Graphics memory remains at 2GB VRAM. A special feature of the graphics card describes Apple only in American but not in the German Store: It supports the native resolution of 5120 x 2160 pixels at 60Hz. Thus the way was paved to accommodate the display of 5K iMacs in a new monitor.
Last but not least: The new MacBook Pro 15 “with Retina Display receives the new Force Touch trackpad, which could fully convince us in the test on the 13-inch model: It is extremely precise and opened by the pressure sensitivity new opportunities.
