HP Elitebook 840 G3 and Elitebook 1040 G3

Let’s face it: if you are in train or plane and your neighbor turns on the notebook starting to fiddle around, it is almost natural that your eyes fall (repeatedly) on the screen trying to understand more of the person with whom you share the armrest. Whether it’s a word page, a PowerPoint presentation, a video or a personal photo gallery, privacy is at risk and could be a problem for someone. But HP has devised a solution.

HP Elitebook 1040 G3 with HP Sure View

Announced in October 2015, the HP Sure View technology (at the time we did not know the exact name) is now actually on two American company laptops: Elitebook 840 G3 and G3 Elitebook 1040. The notebook will always remain the same (in and out), but for some of their SKUs you can add a “privacy filter” for the screen that – when activated – will reduce the lateral viewing angles.

The screen uses the patented 3M micro-louvre technology to block the display of the view outside of who will sit directly opposite. In practice, a film within the display reduces the viewing angle of the panel to only the front, making the black side. In the new HP notebooks, the transition should be automatic, triggered by a combination of buttons: a single press Fn + F2, the sides of the screen should darken reducing the angle of 35 ° vision and blocking 95% of the light, pushing again the two keys will return to normal visibility. You can also adjust the “level of privacy” by pressing Fn + brightness.

The HP EliteBook notebooks Elitebook 1040 840 G3 and G3 with technology View Sure cost about $ 75 more than the standard versions, a price slightly more expensive than a classic filter for privacy $ 50. But if you consider that the privacy-filters must be periodically replaced, because you ruined or lost, Sure View is also cheaper.
For now, the notebook with HP Sure View are on sale only in the US and there seems no plans on arrival in Europe. In the coming weeks it should also follow the launch of new Probook with the same technology, but at the moment the company has not released other details
