Almost a year after the announcement of a VR-ready game PC wearing a shoulder-backpack (remember?), HP has finally presented its new design, though it’s a bit different from the original and added some information about Price and launch date. The HP Omen X Compact Desktop – as its name suggests – is essentially a compact desktop PC, but it can also be worn as a backpack when needed. In essence, with a special dock, you will use it as a fixed PC even quite powerful while with dedicated accessories it will become a PC Backpack VR.
The HP Omen X Compact Desktop will be available in July for $ 2499 but, if you want to put it on your shoulder, you can buy the optional Omen VR Backpack at $ 599. For the moment its distribution is only planned on the American market and we do not know what the American company’s programs are for Italy.
But how will it work for VR? Just move the desktop PC to the VR backpack, connect a viewer like an Oculus Rift or HTC Vive, and then enjoy a virtual reality experience for hours without worrying about stumbling into the cables. Considering that the backpack accommodates the Omen X and lets you carry it around, all the cables will be connected to the computer and will move with it, except for the power supply that will be replaced by a pair of hot-swappable batteries supplied by the backpack. Omen VR backpack, in particular, has four 73Wh batteries, which can be recharged two at a time thanks to a dock, while the other two will be in use, allowing you to continue playing without interruption even if you are running out of power . As reported by HP, with four fully charged batteries, users will be able to play “on paper” for up to two hours, replacing batteries as they unload.
