Huawei Mate 8 is official, exactly as promised. The presentation took place a few hours ago in China, but the company reserves the right to reveal all details (price and availability especially effective), and show its potential live in January at the CES 2016 in Las Vegas. For now we have to “settle” the full specification, already emerged albeit in a piecemeal fashion with the rumors, and official pictures already circulated as a leak.
Huawei Mate 8 is a flagship, and a terminal that is second to none on either design or performance, but especially the first smartphone with high-end processor HISILICON Kirin 950, an octa-core with four core ARM Cortex A72 from 16nm FinFET and 2.3GHz four core ARM Cortex A53 1.8GHz configuration big-LITTLE, to which is added a co-processor i5 that will save energy. Just to be clear: Kirin 950 will collide in 2016 with the likes of Qualcomm Snapdragon SoC 820, MediaTek X20 and X30 and Samsung Exynos 8890, but according to initial test is the only one who is scoring 80000 points on AnTuTu. The graphics are a Mali-T880MP4, which should offer superior performance to 80% compared to the previous Mali-T760. The platform is then completed with 3GB or 4GB of RAM and 32GB or 64GB of ROM.
The screen is another important component of the phablet: 6 inch IPS Full HD resolution (1920 x 1080), which leaves little room around and is slightly curved (2.5D). At the rear, Huawei has built a 16-megapixel camera with Sony IMX298 sensor and aperture f / 2.0, while the front is placed a 8MP camera, this one signed with Sony IMX179 opening f / 2.4. Another feature is the fingerprint reader on the back, just below the camera. We do also note the presence of a 4000 mAh battery and Android 6.0 with Marshmallow EmotionUI.
Aesthetically reminds Huawei Mate S (hence our hands-on video), with an aluminum frame thin and light embellished with some details like the rings surrounding the fingerprint reader and the camera on the back, this time round and not more squared.
Huawei Mate 8 will go on sale in China by the first quarter of 2016, in the colors Champagne Gold, Silver Moonlight, Space Gray and Mocha Brown, but for details on price and marketing of other market (including European) we will have to wait for CES 2016.
