IBM officially unveiled LinuxOne, a new mainframe that will be available in two versions to meet both the needs of the entry-level of the top of that range. The peculiarity of these mainframe, as well as the performance nothing short of amazing, is certainly the adoption of the Linux operating system Ubuntu.
The models in question are LinuxONE Rockhopper for entry-level and LinuxOne Emperor, a true monster of power if we look at the technical specifications of the mainframe.
IBM LinuxONE Emperor is in fact based on the famous IBM z13; in numbers this results in a system that can accommodate 141 to 8 Core CPU with a clock of 5 GHz, 10 TB of memory and capable of carrying a peak 2.5 Billions of calculations per day.
We currently do not know the price but for sure we are over $ 100,000.
