Intel Compute Stick Intel Core M3 and M5

Zotac, Asus and other manufacturers have launched the first TV Stick with Intel Cherry Trail, but Intel takes a step forward. At CES 2016, Santa Clara has introduced a new line of Compute Stick with Intel Core M (Skylake) more powerful.

The new key, which should be available in the first quarter of 2016 (so by March), will be equipped with 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage expandable up to 128GB with an SDXC card reader, dual-band 802.11ac WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, HDMI 1.4B and USB 3.0, as well as two additional USB 3.0 ports with an adapter that can be connected to the power connector and 5V 4A. According to reports from the company, will be available at least three new models:

Intel Compute Stick (STKMV64CC) with Intel Core vPro M5-6Y57;
Intel Compute Stick (STKM3W64CC) with Intel Core M3-6Y30;
Intel Compute Stick (STKM364VCC) with Intel Core M3-6Y30;
Intel Compute Stick Intel Core M3
The TDP of the chip Core M is 4.5 watts, but the product pages of Compute Stick second generation indicate a TDP of 12 watts. It is an error or there is something that escapes us? In any case, the new models should offer significantly better performance than the versions of last year, so it’s a big step forward for those looking for a compact Mini PC for streaming video and productivity at home.

The models M3 (ie STKM3W64CC and STKM364VCC) will be sold with pre-installed Windows 10 or FreeDOS (without operating system), but everyone should support Linux and Windows. The new Compute Stick Intel measures 114 x 38 x 12 mm, and is longer than a few millimeters and little ‘thicker than the Intel Compute Stick first generation, but more power, improved wireless connectivity and other small hardware upgrades / software should compensate for that little extra space.
The design also changed a bit ‘, compared to the version with Core M (Broadwell), we saw a few months ago at IDF 2015. We do not know if Intel has also included in this model a fan to lower indoor temperatures, but different fan grills on the frame lead us to think that it is free
