Intel NUC6I7KYK Skull Canyon

Intel NUC “Skull Canyon” is the most powerful Mini PC Santa Clara: it was announced late last year and officially presented only three months later, on the occasion of the Global Developers Conference (GDC) 2016, which also marked the beginning of its availability in USA. From April, in fact, Intel has provided its new NUC priced at $ 650 in the barebones version, but for novice users and for those lazy has also developed a pre-configured SKUs that is priced at $ 999. Early reviews promote it with flying colors and – to date – seems the most complete solution for hardcore gamers.

For several days Intel Skull Canyon is on sale in Italy and is excellent news. Intel has not forgotten Europe (and much of the Italian market), bringing albeit with a little ‘delay one of the top in the desktop view. And ‘he, the NUC different: rectangular chassis and crushed (216 x 116 x 23 mm) with a big skull engraved on the lid. At the time of this writing, the availability is still quite limited but we are confident that within a few weeks Intel Skull Canyon conquer the shelves of major stores, both physical and virtual. But if you can not resist, we announce that Amazon offers the NUC6I7KYK (this is the exact code!) for 715 EUR including VAT and shipping included, but some smaller shops can also place it at 100 euro less. And for 600 euro it is really a good deal.

Considering the price, it is the barebones version: NUC6i7KYK is equipped with a quad-core processor Intel Core i7-6770HQ from 2.6GHz (up to 3.5GHz in Turbo Mode) and 45W TDP, not the most powerful chip for notebooks in circulation but definitely one of the fastest. This CPU integrates a GPU Iris Pro 580 from 72 EU (Executive Unit) and 128MB of eDRAM cache. The NUC is already equipped with a combo module Intel 8260 WiFi 802.11ac and Bluetooth, but will serve DDR4 RAM memory at 2133MHz (max 32GB), M.2 SSD SATA slots and two PCI Express to make it work.
On board there is a good selection of interfaces, including a full-size HDMI 2.0 port to handle 4K video on external TV, a mini DisplayPort 1.2, four USB 3.0 ports, audio jacks, a slot for SD cards to expand internal memory, a Gigabit LAN port and an IR sensor to use a remote control. Let’s not forget the Thunderbolt port 3 (USB 3.1 Gen 2), could open new possibilities on the use of external graphics cards, so fashionable in this period.

For the moment there is no trace in the Italian version of Intel NUC Skull Canyon preconfigured, nor sold bundled with the docking Razer Core, but if you want you can expand the functionality of your NUC buying an extra cover. Like classic Intel NUC square, even the Intel NUC6I7KYK support optional lid such as integrating an NFC chip
