Kobo is preparing to launch a new 7.8-inch ebook-reader. We are sure, because the engineers of the FCC tested in these days revealing a preview of his name: Kobo Aura One (N709 Code). But not only, as it will probably be accompanied by another model with a smaller screen 6-inch (N236 code) and very similar specifications. The latter’s e-reader does not know much, but considering the size, could be the successor of a Kobo Touch or Kobo Glo HD, both with the same display, or a model in the same range. Hard to say for now.
Kobo Aura One should instead be a novelty: the first family “One” and the first with a 7.8-inch e-Ink, quite unusual for an ebook-reader. Again, there are lots of technical information on the device but the name and size suggest that there will be a top-of-range model. Kobo currently has three to List ebook-reader:
Kobo Touch 2.0 by 6 inches (800 x 600 pixels) to $ 90
Kobo Glo 6-inch HD (1448 x 1072 pixels) touch illuminated by $ 130
Kobo Aura H2O from 6.8 inch (1430 x 1080 pixels) touch lighted and waterproof $ 180
Kobo Aura One, therefore, would have the biggest screen of the group, but also of any other competitor Amazon Kindle and B & N Nook eReader. The resolution for the time is not known, nor the amount of storage space or RAM, but we do know that support WiFi 802.11n networks and will have a micro USB port for charging. It will be produced by Netronix.
According to what is suggested by Brad Liliputing, Kobo Aura One will be equipped with a 1200 mAh battery while the 6-inch version should have a battery with greater capacity of 1500 mAh. Directly discuss this issue again in September, at IFA 2016 in Berlin, also the last year selected for the fair presentation of Pika Kobo (Kobo Touch 2.0).
