The family of gaming notebook Lenovo IdeaPad Y700 was presented last September at IFA 2015, and has now won: clean lines and sophisticated design, powerful platform based on Intel or AMD Skylake and graphics card to a good standard, although not the best. Expected the first models on the market in the fall (October-November) but, according to the latest statements of Italian Lenovo, the IdeaPad Y700 15-inch (Y700-15) and 17-inch (Y700-17) will be purchased in our country only from February 2016 to the starting price of 999 Euros (VAT included). A few more weeks of waiting, then.
Let’s talk about ‘them: Lenovo has chosen a black brushed aluminum frame with carbon fiber covers, embellished with red details a bit’ everywhere, on speaker grilles, two-level backlight on the keyboard, and touchpad interfaces. The overall look is aggressive, but not so eccentric is well in an office. The family Lenovo IdeaPad Y700 is available in two sizes: 15.6-inch and 17.3-inch full HD resolutions (1920 x 1080 pixels) and 4K (3840 x 2160 pixels) also touch. Only the model IdeaPad Y700-15 though Intel will integrate a camera RealSense 3D.
The hardware platform is the most powerful, because it is based on Intel Skylake (until i7-6700HQ Core 2.6 GHz) or on the latest AMD APU, which provide excellent overall performance (playback 4K will not be a problem) and a good efficiency, for a better autonomy, essential for a battery 60W. The graphics card belongs to the midrange is a Nvidia GeForce GTX 960m with 4GB of dedicated memory for both models but, if you prefer a solution signed AMD, Lenovo offers a Radeon R9 with 4GB VRAM. Either way you will not have difficulties with the latest titles on the market, from Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Obviously to manage all this energy (and especially the heat produced), Lenovo has chosen an active cooling system with two fans that “sweep away” the hot air through the heat pipe and the ventilation grills on the bottom.
The rest of the budget is shared with (up to) 16GB of RAM, two-speaker JBL stereo (2 + 2W) subwoofer (3W), dual-band 802.11ac WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0. The storage options are diverse and include: hard disk 1TB SSD with maximum 512GB or 1TB SSHD configurations for touch, or even 1TB hard drive, 512GB SSD or HDD 1TB with 8GB SSD for models with non-touch Realsense. Connectivity instead provides a USB 2.0 and two USB 3.0, a multi-format card reader, audio jacks, Gigabit LAN, HDMI output and full-size connector Kensington Security.
