MeLE StarCloud PCG61 and PCG61-U

What you see in the photographs and in the hands-on video below is a new fanless mini PC apple, called StarCloud PCG61 and also available in a variant StarCloud PCG61-U. The two models are virtually identical, both visually and technically even declined in most configurations, but characterized by a different operating system: Apples StarCloud PCG61 runs on Windows 10, apples StarCloud PCG61-U uses Ubuntu Linux 16.04 but for the most experienced and thrifty c ‘it is also a barebones version.

Under the metal chassis, chosen among other things, to accelerate the dissipation, the apples StarCloud PCG61 and PCG61-U integrate a quad-core Intel Celeron processor N3150 (Braswell) with Gen8 Intel HD Graphics, 4GB / 8GB of RAM and DDR3L 32GB / 64GB / 128GB ROM expandable to 512GB, as well as an interface kit includes a HDMI 1.4 and a VGA, two USB 3.0 ports and two USB 2.0 ports, audio jack, reset button for the BIOS, Kensington Lock, WiFi 802.11ac (with two large antennas), Bluetooth 4.0 and Gigabit Ethernet.
We saw them live recently, at a trade fair and a few days are for sale: some Asian online shop opened pre-orders with prices starting at $ 149 for the barebones version, which, however, need to add extra charges for memory, storage, and operating system. The Mini preconfigured and already complete PC are obviously more expensive and the different SKU differ only in the amount of RAM and ROM, with these prices:
Apples StarCloud PCG61-U with 4GB of RAM, 64GB SSD and Ubuntu 4.16 to $ 199;
Apples StarCloud PCG61 with 4GB of RAM, 64GB SSD and Windows Pro at $ 299;
Apples StarCloud PCG61 with 8GB of RAM, 128GB SSD and Windows Pro $ 349.
It is a low-cost equipment, but it is above that chip to make us turn up our noses seen that before long they should be available on the market processors with low consumption next generation Apollo Lake, much more powerful. The Intel Celeron N3150 CPU, however, gives some additional guarantee, because it is already known processor and run-in, ideal for a passive cooling model.

It ‘good to clear, too, that those who choose the StarCloud PCG61-U, may regret it: Apples and other Chinese companies that sell computers with Ubuntu does not provide a great support for updates, so if you want to switch to Ubuntu 16.10 or to another system operating’ll have sbrigarvela alone. It remains, however, the advantage of Ubuntu Linux already installed and configured on the Mini PC, ready to be used as soon as you turn on your computer
