Although the Mini PC industry is no longer the same, companies (especially those that have based their core business on these machines) continue to produce new models that are – in most cases – simple refreshes. Just like the new Minix NEO N42C-4, the new IFA 2017: is small, hardware-friendly and rather convenient, at least compared to the offering.
Minix NEO N42C-4
We had the opportunity to take a closer look at this model, just at the fair on the company stand, which illustrated the technical features and the various design details in the interview that you find above. The prototype shown is a pre-production sample, but we must admit that the level of software optimization is almost impeccable, showing itself at a fast field test. The Minix NEO N42C-4 certainly deserves a deeper test, but as we saw in our first contact we did not disappoint.
From an aesthetic point of view, the Minix NEO N42C-4 is not much different from other Mini PCs in the past: it still incorporates a very compact black anti-finger polycarbonate chassis, though with a few millimeters more for the presence of a active dissipation. Yes, this latter model says goodbye to the fanless and comes with a fan to cool the internal components.
The technical equipment could actually do so, but probably the differences will be seen in the heaviest loads. On board, we have an Intel Pentium N4200 (Apollo Lake) 1.1 GHz and up to 2.5GHz quad-core processor with Intel HD Graphics 505 graphics, 4GB of DDR3L dual channel expandable memory up to 8GB, and 32GB of eMMC 5.1 storage which can be joined by an SSD drive M.2 (standard 2280) thanks to a free slot inside. The technical card closes with a WiFi 802.11ac dual-band and Bluetooth 4.1 module, USB Type-C port (also for power supply), three USB 3.0 ports, one HDMI 1.4, mini DisplayPort, 3.5 mm power jack and jack . At the bottom are the four screws to mount the Mini PC behind a monitor / TV through the VESA mount. The operating system is Windows 10 Pro.
According to Minix, its new NEO N42C-4 is currently in production but will be ready by the end of September. Marketing should start in October and the sale price should go around 270 euros. We will be back in the coming weeks with the first pre-sales
