MSI Cubi 3 is a small desktop computer with brushed aluminum frame and fanless design (so no fan) to save energy and provide maximum silence even with particularly heavy workloads. It is not the first Mini Passive Series PC, but it is the first MSI Cube fan with Intel Kaby Lake-U 15W processors since the previous generations were powered by low-power Intel Braswell chips. That’s why it’s special.

The Mini PC only has a hidden ventilation grid underneath the cover running around the entire perimeter, the only hot air escape route, while inside there are Intel Core i3-7100U processors, Core i5-7200U or Core i7-7600U (Kaby Lake) with integrated Intel HD 620 graphics, two SoDIMM DDR4 memory slots for up to 32GB, one 2.5 “drive (HDD or SSD) drive and one M.2 2280 slot for solid state memory, But Intel’s Optane memory can also be integrated with MSI. The platform should allow 4K Ultra HD video playback without problems, but we do not forget that the processor chosen is for notebooks, so it will never reach the performance expected of a Desktop, albeit compact.
All in all, MSI Cubi 3 is very handy though it looks a bit bigger than other family models, probably to allow better air circulation inside, but thanks to its size we will find a rich interface: DisplayPort , HDMI, six USB ports (including 4 USB 3.0), two Ethernet, two COM ports (including a RJ-45 to COM), and an audio jack. WiFi and Bluetooth modules are positioned on their sides with their antennas near a polycarbonate zone, which avoids shielding.

MSI Cubi 3 can be secured under a desk or behind a monitor with the VESA support and, removing the four screws on the bottom, allows easy storage and storage upgrades. The Mini PC should be launched on the market next fall, so around October-November, but the price has not yet been announced
