Almost all smartwatch have similar characteristics, namely fitness tracker functions (pedometer and heart rate) associated to those of a clock (date, time, messages, mail and telephone in some cases, but the new Polar M600 is more like a smartband with smartwatch functions than vice versa. and that’s why we like the idea and not surprisingly, we saw that the Finnish company is already known in the industry for several bracelets lines for fitness, “smart” scales, GPS watch and computer bike.
Polar M600 costs € 349.90 and can be booked through the official website. It uses many of the same sensors and design elements that characterize other Polar devices, but you have to consider to “full” one smartwatch because it runs on Android Wear.
The watch is equipped with a 1.3-inch square display (240 x 240 pixels), MediaTek MT2601 dual-core processor (ARM Cortex-A7), 512MB of RAM and 3GB of ROM. It supports WiFi 802.11n, GPS and GLONASS, Bluetooth 4.2 and is compatible with all smartphones based on Android 4.3 (or later) or iOS 8.2 (or later). On board there is also a 500 mAh battery that should withstand up to 2 days with a normal or 8 hours use “in training,” in addition to a series of sensors including accelerometer, gyroscope, ambient light and optical pulse sensor which exploits 6 LED to detect the heartbeat.
Polar M600 is built with a silicon strap and a waterproof case (IPX8), so you can wear the smartwatch to swim and dive in water up to 10 meters. As you can see from the pictures, on the edge are two buttons: one for power and one for “the rapid training control”, which provides an array of proprietary features for sports, fitness and monitoring of ‘ physical activity, but being all in all an Android Wear device can also install third-party applications (such as Fitbit or Jawbone).
