The Pi-TopCeed, the new project from the creators of the Raspberry Pi Pi-laptop-Top, now has $ 150,000 completed on IndieGoGo. That’s three times more than the minimum that the company needs to produce the Raspberry Pi desktop of $ 99.
The IndieGoGo campaign of the company, which like their first product named Pi-Top, began on November 10 with a funding goal of $ 50,000, which the company achieved within the next two days. The biggest problem with the original Pi-Top, the company’s laptop, according to founder Jesse Lozano was the price, “people said that they are 100 or $ 150 it would buy a Rasperry Pi-laptop.” The Pi-Summit However, costs $ 299. Therefore, the company now focuses on a Raspberry Pi desktop, a variant of which they say they can build a model of $ 99. That says Lozano in an interview with TechCrunch. The price is valid only as long as the IndieGoGo campaign. How much the Pi TopCeed then cost is not known. Users must also add their own keyboard and mouse to the device.
The Pi-TopCeed consists of a small, green frame with space for the internal hardware of the lower half of the frame and the screen above it. This screen has a diagonal of 13.3 inches and a resolution of 1366 by 768 pixels. A stand on the back determines the angle of the device and the Pi-TopCeed can also be mounted to a wall. The Raspberry Pi 2 hardware can be expanded further with things like speakers, LED lights and a breadboard. For the latter two, users can write Python code to playfully learn to program. However, the hardware can be emulated in software. Furthermore, the Pi-TopCeed like its predecessor shareholders Pi-topos on board, the Raspberry Pi especially gebruiksvriendelijker have to do with things like a simple GUI and functionalities as safely turn off when the user presses the power button. Also, LibreOffice, Chromium, Tungsten and some other apps included.
“The Pi-TopCeed is designed for beginners of all ages”, it says on the IndieGoGo page. The product is designed to teach the user how he makes his own hardware and software. They are joined Pi-Top with CeedUniverse, a MMORPG in which players can write and they can easily share their own Python code and discuss with other players in the world. CeedUniverse costs nothing extra. “It will always be free. I want it to be the ultimate source of knowledge and education,” said Lozano. A beta of the software to be released in early 2016. On the IndieGoGo page, the company also speaks of hardware design with a 3D printer, but it is not included. The software it facilitates the design of objects for a 3D printer.
