At one time there were Lenovo IdeaTab, the consumer tablet with Android declined in three sizes 7, 8 and 10 inches with a medium-low technical details, then in 2014 came the Lenovo Tab, and today they are still available in stores, indeed the family has been so successful that it is now in its third generation. It does not change compared to the past, because it is a series of mid-range (to be honest, some models are ultra-economical) with Android and display up to 10 inches, but Lenovo may be close to the launch of a new family.
The information we have available are few and fragmentary, but everything seems to prove that the Chinese company is going to present a new Android tablet line for the general public. We did not have a final trade name, but the model certificates acronyms by government agencies, make us think that it will not be Lenovo Tab 4. Lenovo is once again shuffling the cards: the new series will have a new brand, although the design will remain virtually identical to the current one. In short, as was done for some notebook series, there may be a very early even renaming the tablet family. And now we will explain why.
TENAA tested in these days the TB-8703N models and TB-8703F, while the FCC has given the green light for TB-7703N variants and TB-7703F. The codes – as you can see you too – are very similar to each other but completely different from the syntax used to date. TB should stand for TAB, but unlike the Lenovo Tab 2 (TB2) and Lenovo Tab 3 (TB3), there is no figure that indicates the generation. And also the numbers that follow are not the rules of the previous models, characterized by three digits and a letter to indicate the WiFi connectivity (F) or 4G (N), but form a code that we can “decipher” partially only for the diagonal of the display (the first number). In essence, although we have not yet certain, the next tablet Lenovo will inaugurate a new family. He will be called “Lenovo Pad”, as indicated by the motherboard model 7-inch, but it is still early to tell.
Meanwhile, thanks to the documents of the cross-government bodies with the results of Geekbench (here and here), we can also take a look at their data sheets: Lenovo-8703N TB and TB-8703F are tablet 8 inch Full HD (1920 x 1200 pixels), SoC with octa-core Snapdragon 625 2.0GHz, 2-3GB of RAM and storage 16-32GB, 4250 mAh battery, two cameras (front and rear) and Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, while Lenovo TB -7703N and TB-7703F should have a 7-inch display (resolution unknown), SoC quad-core 1.2GHz Snapdragon 410, 16-32GB 2-3GB of RAM and ROM with Android 6.0.1.
Lenovo-8703N TB and TB-8703F
At first glance they seem to have higher specs for Lenovo Tab 3, a figure confirmed by the frame that looks in aluminum and not plastic, but it is still difficult to draw a precise identikit. We do not exclude that there is also a 10-inch model. We definitely talk about it over the summer and, officially, at IFA 2016 in Berlin. Stay tuned.
