All according to plan: Xiaomi launched Mipad 2 but, in spite of any waiting, is very similar to the first generation model (at least at first glance). Both tablets integrate, in fact, a 7.9-inch display (2048 x 1536 pixels) which again leads us to make comparisons with an iPad Mini, but there are important differences: I Pad (2014) is equipped with a processor Nvidia Tegra K1 and a plastic frame, while I Pad 2 (2015) has an Intel chip Cherry Trail and metal chassis. It’s not all: Xiaomi I Pad 2 is also one of the first devices of Chinese companies that will come with Windows or Android, optionally.
Turning to the technical specifications, Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 is equipped with an Intel Atom x5-Z8500, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, WiFi 802.11ac, a 6,190 mAh battery, a USB Type-C and two cameras 8MP (rear) and 5 megapixel (front). According to preliminary information released, the entry-level version (16GB) will be available in China for 999 yuan (about 150 EUR), while the 64GB model will cost 1,299 yuan (about 190 Euros).
The two versions will be on sale in the coloring silver or gold, both with a thickness of about 7 mm and weight of 322 grams. In short, it Pad 2 will be a bit ‘thinner and lighter than I Pad. The Android version of the tablet will be characterized by the software Xiaomi MIUI, which includes some new features like the “read mode” that reduces the emission of blue light not to cause vision problems.
