As you might know, Acer has expanded its family of convertibles with Windows 8 launching in New York the new Acer Aspire R11. And it is then that we had the opportunity to carry out hands-on video (in Italian and English) that you see below, and also picks up the first impressions of the small hybrid – with a rotation of the display 360 degrees – is transformed into a tablet. Anyone interested can buy it from June to starting price of 349 Euros in white (White Cloud) and blue (Sky Blue), but in the meantime you can pass the time with the account of our live test.
Acer Aspire R11
Aspire R11 proposes a concept already seen not only in other convertible Acer (it is the younger brother dell’Aspire R14) but also other companies (think for example to the Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga, HP Pavilion and Toshiba Satellite x360 Radius 11) thanks to its hinge double cylinder can be rotated 360 ° and just like these models, can be used in four modes (notebook, tent, display and pad) passing quickly from one to another with a simple gesture.
Although the concept is the same as the Acer Aspire R14, however it seems that the Taiwanese House has perfected the zipper on the new Aspire R11 because now looks much more solid and smooth: the display lid rotates around the pins with a very fluid motion and remains perfectly still even if you shake vigorously laptop.
The 11.6-inch HD screen (1366 x 768 pixels) with Gorilla Glass is also perfect in tablet mode because it manages to be compact and yet comfortable for reading and productivity. The cover, just like that of the Switch 10 E, is made of polycarbonate and has a special texture created via 3D printing and finished with laser engraving that makes it interesting to look at and comfortable to use, since it does not retain fingerprints.
Acer Aspire R 11 will be available in multiple configurations with Intel Celeron or Pentium (Braswell), up to 8GB of RAM DDR3L, HDD 500GB or 1TB, but not all of the SKUs will be available in all markets. It is a fanless device that, thanks to these chips, should offer poor performance and low operating temperatures (that’s why the only grids are present on the bottom to the speakers).
In notebook mode, enjoyed the large touchpad Precision and good feedback from the keyboard, but also the set of interfaces that provides USB 3.0 and USB 2.0, full-size HDMI, Ethernet and SD card reader (hidden in the back). Acer states a range of 8 hours. There is also a webcam Acer Crystal Eye HD audio technology and Acer TrueHarmony.
Acer Aspire R11
With the Switch 10 E, the Aspire R11 goes to make the offer of Acer for the entry-level segment of the notebook 2in1 convertible tablet, which includes two sizes and two different types to suit the tastes a bit ‘of all users. So easy to predict a great response from the market for the Acer Aspire R11, which we love particularly the blue variant, which are convenient and suitable especially for students or for those looking for an ultra-cheap to carry around. Even the white color is not bad, but it might get dirty more easily.
