Oculus Rift, Lives HTC and Samsung Gear VR, to name only the best known, are viewers for the virtual reality that require connection to a PC or the use of a smartphone. Idealens K2 instead must not be connected to any external device, as it integrates all the components necessary for image processing.
The viewer designed from Chinese company only weighs 295 grams, therefore does not require the presence of straps for securing to the head, but only a metal frame with internal padding that allows upward rotation of 90 degrees. Idealens K2 was produced by Foxconn and can also be worn with eyeglasses. The hardware includes a 3.81-inch display with Quad HD resolution (2560 × 1440 pixels), Samsung Exynos 7420 processor, 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage, expandable with microSD up to 128 GB. The design optic double lenses ensures a viewing angle of 120 degrees and a color reproduction of 99%.
The refresh rate is 90 Hz and the latency is less than 17 milliseconds. WiFi 802.11a / b / g / n and Bluetooth 4.0 modules, several sensors are present (light, proximity, gyro, compass and accelerometer), a USB port for charging the 3,800 mAh battery, volume buttons (left side) and touchpad (right side).
The installed operating system is Ideal OS, based on Android. The manufacturer did not disclose the availability and price. However, it is expected a new model with Exynos 8890 processor, the same chip integrated in the Galaxy S7.
