We dedicated a feature article to the new logo and new brand strategy of Lenovo, anticipandovi that we also saw a reorganization and simplification of the many product families that make up the offer of Chinese multinational. The most striking example of this rebranding is represented by convertible notebooks multimode zipper can be rotated 360 degrees to consumer category, currently divided into three series of products: Flex 3 (who are now able to turn into tablet like the Yoga) Yoga 3 (third generation of the successful range of tablet-convertible) and Yoga Pro 3 (ultra and premium, feature a special hinge metal mesh).
We speak of a dozen models and numerous configurations which can generate a bit ‘of confusion among customers. It therefore agrees with the decision of Lenovo to put some ‘order, grouping all convertible multimode zipper “Yoga-style” under the eponymous brand Yoga. The change in nomenclature has already started and will be completed with the arrival of new laptops with Intel Skylake, assuming the following structure:
In many cases it is just a hardware platform upgrade, but in other cases, like that of the Lenovo Yoga 900 the differences are also aesthetic. The Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro are ultra-thin notebooks to high-end, presented at the end of 2014 in an event dedicated to London, indicated by an ultra-thin frame of only 12.8mm thick, and a hardware configuration based on the highly efficient processors Core M combined with drive SSD. Other features of these notebooks are the excellent 13-inch IPS display and the hinge in aluminum and steel inspired by the watch bands.
Lenovo Yoga 900 has the same format of Yoga 3 Pro but a frame more often
In his capacity as the new flagship model of the series Yoga, the Lenovo Yoga 900 stores size 13.3-inch display and QHD IPS 3200x1800px Yoga Pro 3 but switch to more powerful processors. Instead of Broadwell-Y aka Intel core M are now Intel CPUs Skylake series U, in two variants, Intel Core and Intel Core i5-6200U i7-6500U.
The transition to Intel Core series Y to faster Intel Core series U implies a total redesign of the chassis. While the Intel Core M have a TDP of only 4.5W, compatible even with a passive cooling system, the Core i5 Skylake-U have a TDP of 15W, corresponding to a ETDP 7.5W. It becomes necessary therefore an active cooling system more efficient and a frame which favors a better air circulation inside.
In fact, although we have not yet official pictures of the new Lenovo Yoga 900, we know that the chassis will increase from 12.8mm of Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro 14.9 mm thick. At the same time, the weight increases by at 1.19Kg 1.29Kg. It will still be a lot thinner than the Lenovo Yoga 14 3 which has a height of 18.3mm and in return will be able to navigate with ease, even among the most demanding tasks with performance that we expect will double compared to the previous platform.
We can derive this information from the chain of commerce French Fnac, which published two cards Lenovo Yoga 900, 80MK003CFR model with Core i5-6200U, 8GB of RAM and 512GB SSD at a list price of € 1,499, and 80MK003DFR model with Core i7 -6500U to 1699 €. Both notebooks are powered by a large battery 66Wh against 44Wh battery Yoga Pro 3, and have 1 x USB 3.1, 1 x USB 3.0, 1 x USB 2.0, HDMI, combo audio jack and SD card reader.
Lenovo Yoga 900 is just one of many notebook and tablet with Intel Skylake that will arrive on the market by Christmas 2015. Recently we dealt with for example also of the HP Envy 13, the Acer Aspire R13, R14 and the Aspire series V and E, of DELL XPS 13 and Alienware 13 dell’ASUS Zenbook UX303UB and many others.
