Usually we associate the name MediaTek chip cost and low-voltage, we find in smartphones and tablets mainly of Chinese workmanship, but already for some time, the Taiwanese company has shown interest in other areas distant from the ultra-mobile. It proves this even in the last participation at CES 2016: MediaTek has launched three new processors, but none of these will be integrated into portable devices rather wearable (smartwatch), IoT devices and Blu-Ray Ultra-HD.
MediaTek MT8581 is a chip designed for Blu-Ray and other TV boxes that support video resolutions with Ultra HD (2160p) and HDR (High Dynamic Range). According to official documents, the processor will support video compression standard H2.65 / HEVC VP9 and the resolution of 3840 × 2160 pixels at 60 fps and the MPEG-2, VC-1 and VP8 to the resolution of 1920 × 1080 pixels, always at 60 fps. Mass production is scheduled for the second half of 2016, so it will be ready for the market between 2016 and 2017.
MediaTek MT2523 is instead directed to smartwatch, so devices with very low power, and provides support for GPS and Bluetooth Low Energy and high-resolution screens. Guarantee a week of battery life, depending on usage and the general characteristics of the watch, and will be available to manufacturers in the first half of the year.
MediaTek MT7697 processor is created for home automation and “smart” IoT as smart bulbs, thermostats, cameras and other equipment with which you can communicate from your smartphone or from an ad-hoc gateway. Supports Bluetooth Low Energy and WiFi dual-band. Like the other two, it will be on sale in the first half 2016
