Tronsmart Ara x5 was one of the first Mini PC with Cherry Trail launched. He supplemented with an Intel Atom x5-Z8700 and the now typical combination of 2GB of RAM with 32GB of ROM, but who has reviewed found great limits: Flash memory was much slower than other Mini PC with Windows compared and the USB 3.0 did not recognize some external HDDs.
Partly for these reasons, the Taiwanese company has released an updated model: Tronsmart Ara x5 Plus offers a memory eMMC 5.0 Samsung faster 802.11ac WiFi module Ampak AP6330 (Intel Wireless-AC 3160) with an external antenna and detachable a new UEFI firmware update that should reduce crashes and blue screens of Windows. It ‘still present the USB 3.0 port, but hopefully that has been optimized with better compatibility for all external devices, such as have been resolved issues with microSD cards are not always recognized.
The rest of the specifications have not changed: Tronsmart Ara X5 Plus still has an Intel Atom Z8300-x5 (Cherry Trail) 1.44 – 1.84GHz with Intel HD graphics Gen8, DDR3L 2GB of RAM, 32GB of expandable memory eMMC 5.0 Samsung with a microSD card slot. Among the interfaces recognize a HDMI, audio jack, two USB 2.0 ports and one USB 3.0, 802.11ac WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0 and Ethernet 10 / 100M, plus the handy button on / off switch and a status LED.
The chassis remained the same: a small black box from 11.81 x 11.4 x 2.7 cm (210 grams), a good result if you think that has a fanless design. The Mini PC is sold with Windows 10 Home preloaded and activated, and is equipped with a power supply, an HDMI cable and the usual user manual. Tronsmart Ara X5 Plus is already on sale in Asian stores at a price of 139.99 dollars (shipping included), while there is no trace of the old model Tronsmart Ara X5, whose production seems to have been suspended.
